What is a Pasadena public insurance adjuster?

A Pasadena public adjuster is an independent analyst who is called in to help consumers settle an insurance claim. When a policyholder submits a claim to his or her insurance company, the provider has an adjuster on their side and so should you. An independent Pasadena insurance adjuster will assess the loss incurred by the policyholder and calculate an appropriate payout based on the incident and the resulting damage. A Pasadena public adjuster often recommends a higher payout on the claim than an adjuster appointed by the insurance company.

Why is that? Because the insurance company’s adjuster has their best interests in mind and that person is going to attempt to limit their cost on your settlement. A Pasadena public insurance claims adjuster works independently of your insurance company, he or she audits your claim with the best possible payout applicable to the extent of your loss or damage.

Both types of adjusters do similar work on the same claim. But your Pasadena public adjuster may take a different approach to the auditing process, his or her investigation can sometimes be more thorough and in-depth than the adjuster assigned by your insurance company. Their adjuster may not be as invested in getting all the facts and exploring every aspect of the incident to fully understand the bigger picture. An independent Pasadena public adjuster performs that additional level of inquiry to get all of the information and data necessary for a fair and appropriate settlement amount.

How does a Pasadena public adjuster work for you?

Pasadena Public insurance adjusters have multiple responsibilities. First, your Pasadena public adjuster will fully evaluate all of the facts and evidence related to your claim. The level of criteria is often higher with a Pasadena public adjuster than with an insurance company appointed adjuster. Once all of the evidence has been gathered and scrutinized, your insurance Pasadena public adjuster will prepare and present his or her findings with a recommended payout.

In many cases, the Pasadena public adjuster’s findings and the insurance company’s adjuster’s findings don’t meet eye-to-eye. When there is a discrepancy between the two sets of findings, a negotiation is typically the next step and your Pasadena public adjuster works directly with your insurer to expedite that process. There is no participation necessary on your part. The Pasadena public adjuster does all the work for you.

Should you hire a Pasadena public adjuster?

Policyholders who may have a particularly sizable claim to file may want to hire a Pasadena public adjuster. Two adjusters working on the same case can have very different outcomes. That is not uncommon but, unfortunately, policyholders who file a claim on their own without the assistance of a public independent adjuster tend to receive a lesser payout. However, working with an independent adjuster on your side can help you get the maximum settlement that you deserve. A policyholder may want to hire a Pasadena public adjuster to avoid the hassle of fighting with the insurance company themselves.

Working with a Pasadena public adjuster does not guarantee a better settlement but it definitely helps in presenting a detailed evaluation of the case by an individual who is trained in determining property insurance damage.

How much does it cost to hire a Pasadena public adjuster?

The cost of hiring a Pasadena public adjuster can vary. When you hire an independent adjuster to work on your behalf, that person is compensated in accordance with the size and complexity of the case under investigation. Before you enter into any agreement with a Pasadena public adjuster, be sure every aspect of the compensation is fully understood by both parties. Some state insurance departments set a maximum on the amount a Pasadena public adjuster can charge for their services.

Will your adjuster be handling the claim personally?

Every Pasadena public adjuster who has been fully trained and licensed understands how to work with insurance companies on settling a claim. The adjuster you hire is tasked with handling every aspect of the claims process from investigation to negotiation. He or she will act as a liaison between you and the insurance company as your authorized representative. If a negotiation is required in getting you the payout you deserve, the adjuster will negotiate on your behalf.

I saw a review that mentioned concern with Excel Adjusters rate and I had to update my review to emphasize that the percentage they take is reflective of how hard they work for you . I send everyone I know to them and they are so honest about what they think they can do for you and then they go above and beyond. In a city full of smoke and mirrors this company is a gem. My son and our home wouldn't be here without them.

We had an amazing experience with Excel as they represented us during our insurance claim. Dealing directly with our insurance company was absolutely horrible until we contacted Excel for help, and it was a total game changer when they took over. Andrew and the entire Excel team were amazing to work with. He communicated everything on our behalf, was super responsive, and helped us navigate the lengthy process of dealing with our claim. They fought hard to get every penny we deserved in order to repair the damages covered under our insurance policy and took so much of the weight and stress off our shoulders. Because of Excel, we settled for 3x the amount of what the insurance originally offered. I highly recommend Excel to anyone dealing with insurance claims and can't thank them enough for helping us with this entire process!

While the representative was polite and professional, their quote of 20% was double the rates of the four other public adjusters I contacted that same day. This was surprising, especially given that all adjusters are also overwhelmed with work during the Eaton and Palisade fire crisis. While the state does not explicitly cap public adjuster fees at a specific percentage, it indirectly limits the amount they can charge by ensuring the insured receives the full settlement amount offered by the insurer prior to any contract with the public adjuster. For residential claims, industry practice in California typically caps public adjuster fees at 10%, though this specific percentage may not be directly stated in Section 15027. A public adjuster quoting 20% for a residential claim may be considered unreasonable or exploitative, particularly during a crisis.

We worked with Excel Adjusters for over 2 years to recoup our flood damage from the insurance company. The insurance company was very uncooperative and changed their representative over 5 times. We are glad we went with Excel Adjusters, as they kept pushing insurance company for the proper payment. It was definitely worth working with Andrew and Mr. Park, and getting their help with our claim. There was no way the insurance company would have gotten us a fair claim if it wasn't for Andrew and Excel.

We had no idea that public adjustors even existed, but randomly heard about Excel (John Park) through a friend of ours. We are SO thankful for that chance conversation because it made such a huge difference. We discovered water damage from a hot water spring leak, which had been ongoing for several weeks. When we called our carrier, they sent an inspector who looked around our house and noticed the kitchen flooring had a slight mound. He did not crawl underneath the house, however. After that, we received notice from our carrier that we would be receiving what seemed like a very low payout. So we called Mr. Park at Excel. They immediately came and did a thorough inspection, going underneath our house. They discovered extensive water damage and mold issues in the crawl space under our house and up into our flooring and walls. It was a really bad situation (in fact our whole family had been taking turns being sick with fever for a couple weeks before this discovery). Mr. Park and Andrew got right to business and commenced remediation, helped get us long term housing, and negotiated a payout that was a world of a difference. Had we not called him we would only have received a fraction of the payout and more importantly, we may have continued living in that health hazard without fully remediating it. We would highly recommend him to anyone who is dealing with an insurance claim. Thank you Mr. Park and Andrew! - Yang Family

What is the difference between a Pasadena public adjuster and an Pasadena insurance adjuster?

An insurer will assign their adjuster to analyze and validate the facts in your claim. Based on those facts, that adjuster will determine the payout he or she believes you deserve. But remember, that person is working on behalf of his or her employer, the insurer. Your Pasadena public adjuster is working on your behalf. Each adjuster has one goal – settle the claim to their employer’s satisfaction. For the insurance company that means paying out as little as possible. But you want the maximum amount you deserve and a Pasadena public adjuster can be instrumental in making sure you receive it.

One thing a Pasadena public adjuster is unable to do is get you more of a payout on benefits that you are not entitled to receive. Every Pasadena public adjuster will review your insurance policy to ascertain the limits of your coverage in order to calculate an appropriate payout as per the language in the policy. A reputable Pasadena public adjuster can not and will not attempt to secure a higher settlement beyond those limits.

Frequently Asked Questions for Public Adjusters in California

Hire a public adjuster when you’re dealing with a large or complex claim, such as major fire damage, serious water damage, or losses expected to exceed a few thousand dollars. Many homeowners also seek help if the insurer delays, denies, or underpays the claim.

Public adjusters handle most property-related claims covered by homeowners insurance, including fire, smoke, water damage, burst pipes, storms, theft, and vandalism. They focus solely on property damage and personal property, not medical or injury claims.

They document damage in detail, find hidden issues, review your policy, prepare estimates, and negotiate directly with the insurance company. This often leads to higher settlements and saves you time and stress.

Most public adjusters charge a contingency fee of about 10%–30% of the settlement difference, depending on claim size and complexity. You only pay if they recover money for you.

No. It’s illegal for insurers to penalize or cancel your policy just because you hired a public adjuster. Any premium changes usually relate to the claim itself, not your decision to seek representation.

Yes, if you have a significant claim. Public adjusters often secure higher settlements and handle the entire process for you. For small claims, hiring one may not be necessary.

Business Owner FAQs

Yes. Public adjusters represent businesses of all sizes, including offices, retail stores, warehouses, restaurants, and industrial properties. Many specialize in commercial losses and business interruption claims.

Commercial claims involve more detailed documentation, higher-value assets, and complex insurance policies. A public adjuster ensures accurate assessments, complete claim preparation, and strong negotiations, helping you recover faster and return to normal operations.

They handle fire, smoke, water damage, burst pipes, storms, theft, vandalism, equipment damage, and inventory losses. They also prepare detailed inventories and documentation tailored to business needs.

Absolutely. They calculate lost income, ongoing expenses, temporary relocation costs, payroll, and other financial impacts. Public adjusters use your financial data to build accurate BI claims and negotiate them with the insurer.

Commercial fees typically range from 10%–20% of the settlement. For very large claims, the percentage may be slightly lower. As with homeowners, public adjusters only get paid if you recover funds.

Yes. Commercial losses can seriously disrupt operations. Public adjusters help maximize recovery, shorten delays, and ensure the business receives the full compensation needed to rebuild and resume operations.
