WHAT IS A COSTA MESA PUBLIC INSURANCE ADJUSTER?

A Costa Mesa public adjuster is a professional who assists individuals in settling insurance claims. When submitting a claim, your insurance company has their own adjuster, and you should have one too. An independent Costa Mesa insurance adjuster will evaluate the damages and determine a fair payout based on the incident and resulting losses. A Costa Mesa public adjuster frequently advises for a higher claim payout compared to an adjuster chosen by the insurance company.

Why is that? It’s because the insurance company’s adjuster is focused on minimizing their costs rather than prioritizing your settlement. On the other hand, a Costa Mesa public insurance claims adjuster works independently from your insurance company. Their objective is to thoroughly review your claim and ensure you receive the maximum compensation for your loss or damage.

Both types of adjusters perform similar tasks for the same claim. However, your Costa Mesa public adjuster may adopt a distinct approach to the auditing process, conducting a more comprehensive and detailed investigation compared to the adjuster assigned by your insurance company. Their adjuster may not demonstrate the same level of commitment towards gathering all relevant information and thoroughly examining every aspect of the incident to grasp the complete context. A dedicated Costa Mesa public adjuster diligently collects all the required information and data to ensure a just and proper settlement amount.

In cases where there is a disparity between these two sets of findings, the typical next step involves negotiation, during which your Costa Mesa public adjuster collaborates directly with your insurer to streamline the process. Your active involvement is usually not required, as the Costa Mesa public adjuster handles all the necessary tasks on your behalf.

I saw a review that mentioned concern with Excel Adjusters rate and I had to update my review to emphasize that the percentage they take is reflective of how hard they work for you . I send everyone I know to them and they are so honest about what they think they can do for you and then they go above and beyond. In a city full of smoke and mirrors this company is a gem. My son and our home wouldn't be here without them.

We had an amazing experience with Excel as they represented us during our insurance claim. Dealing directly with our insurance company was absolutely horrible until we contacted Excel for help, and it was a total game changer when they took over. Andrew and the entire Excel team were amazing to work with. He communicated everything on our behalf, was super responsive, and helped us navigate the lengthy process of dealing with our claim. They fought hard to get every penny we deserved in order to repair the damages covered under our insurance policy and took so much of the weight and stress off our shoulders. Because of Excel, we settled for 3x the amount of what the insurance originally offered. I highly recommend Excel to anyone dealing with insurance claims and can't thank them enough for helping us with this entire process!

While the representative was polite and professional, their quote of 20% was double the rates of the four other public adjusters I contacted that same day. This was surprising, especially given that all adjusters are also overwhelmed with work during the Eaton and Palisade fire crisis. While the state does not explicitly cap public adjuster fees at a specific percentage, it indirectly limits the amount they can charge by ensuring the insured receives the full settlement amount offered by the insurer prior to any contract with the public adjuster. For residential claims, industry practice in California typically caps public adjuster fees at 10%, though this specific percentage may not be directly stated in Section 15027. A public adjuster quoting 20% for a residential claim may be considered unreasonable or exploitative, particularly during a crisis.

We worked with Excel Adjusters for over 2 years to recoup our flood damage from the insurance company. The insurance company was very uncooperative and changed their representative over 5 times. We are glad we went with Excel Adjusters, as they kept pushing insurance company for the proper payment. It was definitely worth working with Andrew and Mr. Park, and getting their help with our claim. There was no way the insurance company would have gotten us a fair claim if it wasn't for Andrew and Excel.

We had no idea that public adjustors even existed, but randomly heard about Excel (John Park) through a friend of ours. We are SO thankful for that chance conversation because it made such a huge difference. We discovered water damage from a hot water spring leak, which had been ongoing for several weeks. When we called our carrier, they sent an inspector who looked around our house and noticed the kitchen flooring had a slight mound. He did not crawl underneath the house, however. After that, we received notice from our carrier that we would be receiving what seemed like a very low payout. So we called Mr. Park at Excel. They immediately came and did a thorough inspection, going underneath our house. They discovered extensive water damage and mold issues in the crawl space under our house and up into our flooring and walls. It was a really bad situation (in fact our whole family had been taking turns being sick with fever for a couple weeks before this discovery). Mr. Park and Andrew got right to business and commenced remediation, helped get us long term housing, and negotiated a payout that was a world of a difference. Had we not called him we would only have received a fraction of the payout and more importantly, we may have continued living in that health hazard without fully remediating it. We would highly recommend him to anyone who is dealing with an insurance claim. Thank you Mr. Park and Andrew! - Yang Family

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COSTA MESA PUBLIC ADJUSTER AND AN COSTA MESA INSURANCE ADJUSTER?

When filing a claim with an insurance company, an adjuster will be assigned to assess the details and verify their accuracy. This adjuster, however, is representing the insurer and will determine the amount they believe you are entitled to. On the other hand, a Costa Mesa public adjuster is working on your behalf with the goal of ensuring you receive the maximum amount you rightfully deserve. While the insurer aims to pay out as little as possible, a public adjuster can play a crucial role in advocating for your interests and securing the appropriate compensation for you.

A Costa Mesa public adjuster cannot increase your payment if you are not eligible for it. They will assess your insurance policy to determine the coverage limits and calculate a suitable payout based on the policy terms. A trustworthy Costa Mesa public adjuster will not seek to obtain a settlement beyond these limits.

Frequently Asked Questions for Public Adjusters in California

Hire a public adjuster when you’re dealing with a large or complex claim, such as major fire damage, serious water damage, or losses expected to exceed a few thousand dollars. Many homeowners also seek help if the insurer delays, denies, or underpays the claim.

Public adjusters handle most property-related claims covered by homeowners insurance, including fire, smoke, water damage, burst pipes, storms, theft, and vandalism. They focus solely on property damage and personal property, not medical or injury claims.

They document damage in detail, find hidden issues, review your policy, prepare estimates, and negotiate directly with the insurance company. This often leads to higher settlements and saves you time and stress.

Most public adjusters charge a contingency fee of about 10%–30% of the settlement difference, depending on claim size and complexity. You only pay if they recover money for you.

No. It’s illegal for insurers to penalize or cancel your policy just because you hired a public adjuster. Any premium changes usually relate to the claim itself, not your decision to seek representation.

Yes, if you have a significant claim. Public adjusters often secure higher settlements and handle the entire process for you. For small claims, hiring one may not be necessary.

Business Owner FAQs

Yes. Public adjusters represent businesses of all sizes, including offices, retail stores, warehouses, restaurants, and industrial properties. Many specialize in commercial losses and business interruption claims.

Commercial claims involve more detailed documentation, higher-value assets, and complex insurance policies. A public adjuster ensures accurate assessments, complete claim preparation, and strong negotiations, helping you recover faster and return to normal operations.

They handle fire, smoke, water damage, burst pipes, storms, theft, vandalism, equipment damage, and inventory losses. They also prepare detailed inventories and documentation tailored to business needs.

Absolutely. They calculate lost income, ongoing expenses, temporary relocation costs, payroll, and other financial impacts. Public adjusters use your financial data to build accurate BI claims and negotiate them with the insurer.

Commercial fees typically range from 10%–20% of the settlement. For very large claims, the percentage may be slightly lower. As with homeowners, public adjusters only get paid if you recover funds.

Yes. Commercial losses can seriously disrupt operations. Public adjusters help maximize recovery, shorten delays, and ensure the business receives the full compensation needed to rebuild and resume operations.
